A child spends a big part of his/her time in a school, so teachers often take
a keen interest in the well-being of their students. Hence, schools are the
most appropriate agency to make recommendations to the Compassion Fund on
behalf of their students in crisis.
Principals, teachers and school counselors are empowered and entrusted to
make sound assessments of their students' needs. Social workers from Students
Care Service are available for assistance if support is needed for the assessment.

Compassion Fund comprises the funds raised from Share-A-Meal, MILK's annual
fund-raising event. On this day, everyone 'shares a meal' by donating a small
sum equivalent to what they would spend on a lunch. Schools join us in this
exercise of 'giving' and the funds raised by the schools are set aside as
the Compassion Fund, for the respective school's use, in the event of a crisis
that may affect students' families. MILK undertakes to match the amount to
be made available to the schools for the current year.
Guidelines
1. Applications may be made by all institutions on behalf of their needy students.
2. Needy students from SAM schools (Schools that have participated in Share-A-Meal) will be given priority when allocating funds.
3. Needy students from Non-SAM Schools would be considered on a case by case basis and subject to the availability of funds.
4. Funds that are not used by the school will be carried forward to the following
year up to a maximum of 3 years.
For example:
Amount carried forward from previous year(s) = $ X
Amount raised this year from SAM = $ Y
Amount matched for the current year = $ Y
Total available funds = $ X + (2 * Y)

The programme would be reviewed and evolved based on the needs.
